DNA Bracelets
This lesson takes two class periods of around 50 minutes. I use this in my gifted and talented class to teach about DNA base pairs in through hands on learning. Students learn about the 4 bases of DNA and will make a 3D model, which can be worn as a bracelet. They will pick a living organism and develop a key (bead colors to represent bases) in order to make their bracelet. DNA PAPER MODEL to cut and assemble
This model of DNA is more detailed than most paper models designed for students. Here you can see every atom! You can see how and why the bases connect, and you can see the difference between ribose and deoxyribose. Explaining the 5′ and 3′ directions is easy because the carbons are numbered.
