This editable resource aligns with Donalyn Miller's 40 Book Challenge - where students are challenged to read 40 books during a single school year. Depending on your curriculum, you may want more specific genre choices, or even more independent choices! Each piece of filler paper is enough for one novel. I aim high and put 6 - 8 pieces of filler paper in, hoping to get through that many books in Literature Clubs each year. I fold the paper vertically, copy the covers, and staple the edges. The d

To maximize optimal use, the purchase of the illustrated book, "Brown Girl, Brown Girl, Hasn't Anyone," by Michele Jeanmarie, is available via your favorite bookstore

This file will allow you to see each of the 7 titles I have and their correlation with the specific types of writing required by Common Core. These books are creative nonfiction in that they spread a love of history and nature with students by delving into factual knowledge along with a story line.
