In this 5-day mini-unit, students will explore what robots are and their purposes. They will discuss real-world examples of robots. Additionally, students will begin to gain an understanding of how robots are controlled by codes or programs. They will practice the basics of coding and explore career options related to robotics.

They will practice the basics of coding through a cut-and-paste activity and partner work as well as explore career options involving robotics.
This is a set of 46 cards. Each card has a series of comands students are to write a program for. You can either have them write them out on index cards or actually write it out in the computer and download to robot.
This is a great way to check off their programming skills.
Students apply for their specialized jobs in my competitive robotics class. This is an activity that we do very early in the school year to set a professional tone, and to help students imagine what it would be like to be an engineer hired for a project. The mini resumes created are also used in the FIRST competition notebooks as part of the bios section. Can be adapted for any large project or for a careers course. Rubric is included.
This is for the Automation and Robotics Course it is used for groups of four but could be adapted for a group of 5. It describes the expectations for each role. I typically put it in the middle of the table and laminate it so it is there the whole course. Page two comes with letters. I put each letter at a seat on the table and then rotate who is what role based on the letter.
As a final in our FIRST FTC Robotics course teams write a season summary as a group, covering all aspects of their journey, fundraising, competing, etc. Task card with basic Rubric, in Word doc for easy editing.
The task cards could be used during a robotics competition or during a club after school. Points can be awarded based on how far the students make it through each round. The PowerPoint grid attached gives a visual of how Dash should move to advance through the missions.
A third lesson on Python programming using Python turtle, introducing the concept of 'random' for the turtle - making the turtle move on its own, random distances and random angles to 'draw' random patterns.Also introduces the concept of turtle size - turtle and his/her little brother!

These five teacher activity cards introduce students to computer science through the use of Bee-Bots. To order Bee-Bots, see https://www.bee-bot.us/bee-bot.html. Students will learn how to use the command buttons to make their Bee-Bots move and eventually create a Bee-Bot dance. They will also be introduced to computer science vocabulary such as algorithm and debugging. These activity cards can also be used by coaches and instructional specialist who wish to introduce their teachers to computer
