Here is an opinion writing craft I created to help my kinder babies, soon-to-be firsties with opinion writing. Standard:ELAGSEKW1: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are “writing” about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is...).

This is a modification of the story "Are You My Mother?" It is good to sue with special ed students or some of your lower students so they are reading the same material, but at a differentiated level. The story comes with multiple choice visual questions for reading comprehension assessment.

Reading Adventures on the Numbered Carpet
Teach your children this poem about whole-group reading time. The children go to the classroom carpet that is numbered 1-20 where they can both count and spend time reading. Students will choose their favorite book to read and discuss with a partner; at the end of the day a few will read and briefly discuss their books with the teacher.
