In this project, students learn how to use polynomial function to model roller coaster rides. In this first part, they are given some polynomial functions to find the relative maximum/minimum, increasing/decreasing intervals, x- and y-intercepts, etc. They will explore the average rate of change. I use this activity as a fun way to improve nonverbal delivery skills. It could be used at virtually any time during the year, and might be a fun activity after testing or for the end of school.
