The First Line - How to start a poem
Sometimes the hardest part of writing a poem is that very first line. This workshop goes over 5 different techniques to begin your poem. Rewriting Proverbs
Students will watch a poetry video called Antidote by Australian poet Luka Lesson. In his poem, he states how he "rewrites proverbs just to prove the point." For this lesson, students will briefly analyze and openly respond to Luka Lesson's poem. The key activity is for students to model our poet and rewrite proverbs of their own.
In other words, students will be writing their own truths. Teacher and students then gather in a circle and share their proverbs at the end of class.
