I have been in Japan for nearly 30 years as a teacher of English as a Second Language. During this time I have taught students of all ages and abilities from kindergarten through university and adult classes. I am currently employed in a Senior High school teaching grades 8 through 12. In addition, I also teach listening, reading and writing skills at an evening preparatory school and one morning of play English at a kindergarten.
I enjoy encouraging my students to try out their language skills without being afraid of making mistakes. To this end I set out the parameters of a lesson and then stand back to allow the students to interact in dialogues and conversations amongst themselves, intervening only to help when difficulties are reached. I also have a lot of experience in using multi media and videos within the classroom, particularly in a Language Lab situation. Over the past several years I have created materials using Powerpoint, Prezi, and animated videos which I have used to introduce grammar points, reading topics and also improve listening skills
My language education videos have utilized as case studies by the animation software company Moviestorm. These can be seen here; http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/hub/teaching/teaching_case_study_paul_carr
Graduated with an honors degree in Psychology from the University of Aston in Birmingham, England in 1982. Gained the RSA CELTA in 1988.
I enjoy making addtional English resources for my students, particularly animated videos and multi media teaching materials that can be used in the classroom, language lab or for individual study. As well as making animated movies for classroom use, I have also achieved notice and won awards as a director of short 'machinima movies, including reaching the jury level (top 10) in the 2011 Machinima Expo Film Festival.
