One Word or Two Journey
I found a list of commonly misspelled words that are often mistaken as being one word or two words. As part of my attempt to help students avoid looking foolish in their writing, I taught the list and created quizzes.
While this might not be a specific skill associated with the ACT or other standardized tests, the ability to spell words others often misuse is an important skill.

This is a sample from my Months of the Year Songs. I use these songs during calendar time. This helps the kids learn to spell the months which makes it easier when they need to write it. I have had older students return and tell me that they still sing the songs to remember how to spell the months. I allow my students to create hand movements or clapping to go with each month.

Make The Letter F Sound Lead Sheet
A song written by music therapist, Sarah Winkler, MT-BC, to help clients articulate the letter F sound accurately. The lyrics include a brief description of the oral motor movements required to produce the sound as well as opportunities to practice saying the sound in beginning, middle, and final word placement. Words in the practice section can be substituted with other words with this sound. This song can also be used to teach phonics awareness for the letter F.

Sight Word Chant Anchor Chart
