Fraction Division using String!

After a discussion of reciprocals, students work in cooperative groups to prove the fraction division algorithm by folding lengths of string into fractional parts. After practicing by dividing a whole number length of string, they divide a fractional string length into smaller fractional parts. Aha Moment: When finished, students will have proven why the abstract concept of fraction division is equal to multiplying by the reciprocal of the second fraction.
