Day 3 - Weekly Shopping List / Grocery Budget Worksheet
On Day 3 of the Socioeconomic Simulation, students will use real, tangible grocery magazines to determine a weekly shopping list for their profile. Investing in the Stock Market
This project was created for a consumer math class. It has the students selecting 3 stocks, and buying different amounts based on their budget (I chose budgets and had them draw from a hat). Students will then track the 3 stocks for a month (I have them back track dates on Yahoo! Finance's History tab), and then graphing their gains or losses. Students will then finish by summarizing their month.

Have you ever had students that think being an adult is easy? This project is the perfect way to show them all of the hidden costs of adulthood. Students will be given choices to make a budget that fits in the constraints of their chosen salary. The project is not extremely specific, but it is a great way to introduce or wrap up a budgeting unit.

One Day 4 of the Socioeconomic Simulation, students are going to find a financial setback in their profile folder. The setback page will include how much the setback is going to cost, as well as the credit score for the profile, so they may tell the banker what their score is for an APR% when applying for a loan.

Day 5 - Voter Information Pamphlets
On Day 5 of the Socioeconomic Simulation, print/fold each of the "Voter Information" pamphlets and leave them in the designated profile's folder so students may have a guided reasoning for how their profile's person would vote regarding raising the minimum wage.

Personal Consumer Math Savings Plan
This activity helps students see the difference in saving different amounts of money at over similar time periods. Most students we talk with are very nearsighted when saving money, and this will help them see how fast savings add up over the course of several weeks to a year. Day 5 - Voting Restrictions
On Day 5, students are told they will be voting on a district question regarding raising the minimum wage. First, all profile groups will vote using a paper ballot as a "yes" or "no" in a survey vote. Then, when it is time for the "official" vote, students will open the envelope in their folder for their official ballot. Some student groups will have a ballot in their envelope, but some students will have one of the following voting restrictions in their envelope instead.
