Struggling to find something for your middle schoolers to do at the Winter Concert? This skit it adaptable for many grades, but I created this with my grade 8 class in mind! It uses slang terms with just the right amount of cheese factor that students will buy in! Feel free to adjust to use phrases that are popular in your class. These were just a few my students use regularly. Parts can be adaptable as you see fit and to create more or less speaking parts for students. I did not include the T

The Winter Woodsman Reader's Theatre Script -Mystery ghost story -Riddles

GilesYews are ancient trees. They know all the secrets. They can live for over one thousand years. That one out there is only half such an age. Still, it means you will meet the ghost, that much is certain. Both children glanced nervously towards the front door, despite their conviction that ghosts were simply inventions of an overactive imagination. ColinWhy do you say that? Oscar's Diary: Read in 4 voices (the value of variables)

If you're not familiar with read in 4 voices, it's a strategy for breaking up text that comes out of EL (english learner) classrooms, but it can be useful for all learners. Each member of a 4 person group reads the parts corresponding to their kind of type (plain text, bold, italics, underlined).Oscar's Journal entry is about other kids in his class complaining about the use of letters in math class and why he values using variables. I use it with my 9th grade students as a refresher to discuss

Han Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl Stage Play

This is a dramatic adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's short story, The Little Match Girl. It is a faithful rendition with a harsh reality and a possibly unhappy ending. It can be an effective opportunity to compare and contrast this theatrical version with the original text, which is available online for free at numerous sites. It has been written to be performed on a stage, but it can also serve as a Reader's Theater piece. The running time is approximately six minutes, and can serve as pa

In my teaching experiences, I have found that students are more motivated to solve magic squares over traditional worksheets because there is a final "solution" similar to a Sudoku puzzle. Please check out my other algebra magic squares!

This worksheet would most likely be used early in the learning of the factoring process, but may be used any time. The analyzing should lead the student to realize that when all terms are positive in the quadratic expression, the binomials would have positive constants, when the constant term is positive, but the linear term is negative in the quadratic, the binomial factors
