Descriptive Vocabulary for the Creative Writing Process
Mind Zappers has created a wonderful resource of interesting vocabulary to liven up the creative writing process. If you're not familiar with read in 4 voices, it's a strategy for breaking up text that comes out of EL (english learner) classrooms, but it can be useful for all learners. Two-Step Equations Magic Square
The attached activity is a 5x5 magic square that requires students to solve two-step algebraic equations. When solved correctly, each row and column will add up to the number 65. In my teaching experiences, I have found that students are more motivated to solve magic squares over traditional worksheets because there is a final "solution" similar to a Sudoku puzzle.

I generally use this script for small groups. On the activity is a vocabulary bank for the words used in the script. I usually assign 8-10 vocabulary words (used correctly) to be written into the dialogue. It is a fun activity that helps each students review their vocabulary words in my Civics and History classes. It can be edited to add more spaces for vocabulary or change the name on the Film clapper. This is a great tool for reviewing vocabulary.
