Math Lab: Famous Women in Mathematics/DISTANCE LEARNING/NO PREP

* Welcome to Kindly Pass The Math...* I am very pleased to share my presentation on Famous Women in Mathematics! In addition to being a great resourse for any time of the year, this lesson/activity complements the March celebration and recognition of "WOMEN IN HISTORY MONTH", and I am eager to simply honor the strength of women and the drive they have had to exhibit in the direction of our beautiful discipline, mathematics. * The presentation begins with a discussion on the lives of five nota

Our students are home and have to do distance learning! What do we do?! This project addresses the threat of viruses through the introduction of zombies and moves into the impacts of the COVID-19 virus. Students determine both linear and exponential functions based on given data, they discuss trends and possible solutions. Information in this project was sourced from the CDC and WHO. Please note, much of the project is open-ended. However, an answer key for the sections that have a definit

Students are guided through a phone comparison. Then students will research plans and compare them in groups. This activity also includes 4 different homework problems similar to the phone comparison but related to other fields. This project can be performed in any class studying solving systems of equations. In the past, I have had the groups present their findings on a third day. classes: algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, calculus, applied math Here are links to my other alge

This is a computational activity based on my book's research project, the computation of pi, which is defined as the area of a unit circle. It contains a surprising result--maybe, a new mathematical discovery--which can be seen in the output of a small program in Microsoft Small Basic. No previous programming experience is required for the activity. Until the end, a simple calculator is used, until it becomes clear that it is much easier to write a few lines of code. Color cues are used througho

Made in LaTeX using Tikz this is vector graphics. Can be converted to SVG for use on Word Docs---just insert the SVG image. This is the best graph for graphing and plotting lines for middle and high school math. No more distorted clipped images.

During the recent swine flu outbreak, I had my Algebra I students analyze the growth rate of the outbreak. This activity asks you to compute linear regression, quadratic regression, and exponential regression using data from the CDC. The students then draw conclusions as to which model matches best. I would love to hear any feedback you might have. (If you use use C-Scope I used this after M&M M & M Population Simulation and Height vs. Bounce in Unit 11)
