Breaking News Journalism Assignment
This is an assignment that I used at the beginning of the year for my journalism class. My class submits articles to the local newspaper. However, before we started that adventure, I wanted to make sure the students had a basic understanding of journalism and investigative writing concepts. This assignment is also really fun because it requires students to create a newspaper for a fictional community of their choosing! The requirements are listed in the PDF.

1920s Slang Words and Expressions Mega-List
I combed textbooks and the web to create an exhaustive list of my favorite slang words from the 1920s. Sure, you've probably heard of the "heebie-jeebies", but what about a "face stretcher" (an older woman who tries, without success to appear younger)? I used this simple organizer to help students plan out an article that they wanted to write for our school newspaper. It was a great starting point for students that were struggling with the concept of writing a newspaper article. This organizer can also be used for summarizing an article that has been read/writing up a current event.
