Looking at textbooks, organizers for the US Court System are really nothing new, BUT I didn't like how they were all pretty narrow in scope or impossible for a student to do anything interactive with it; except maybe read through it. I had the idea

Why do some textbooks list out only six principles in the American Constitution? Why do others list out seven? Why do they all seem to include some of the same ones, yet omit others? Honestly, this was driving me crazy! In my experience of teaching

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 20 years in a large and diverse urban district in Orange County, Ca. This has included every core subject in Social Sciences at the high school level, which would encompass Civics, Economics, US History, World History, and additionally, AP US Government and Politics (elective). However, I have been teaching AP Government, Civics, and US History for the longest and would say that those are the subjects I am most passionate about. I am a mentor teacher for AP US Government and Politics for others in my district and also a master teacher for local college students. Currently I am gong through another textbook pilot. I love delving into my subject matter and creating lessons out of it.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have always believed that I need to hit on all different learning styles in order to not only help students, but to also keep things fresh. I truly do believe that interactive lectures and discussion are important, but that there also needs to be a balance with group work, simulations, research, and student-led presentations. I think these activities are at the heart of critical thinking and the common core. I teach at a school with many English language learners and therefore really try to push writing and vocabulary development as a key to their success.
