Using the song lyrics from "Isn't it Ironic" by Alanis Morissette, this lesson is a great attention getter. Students will get to read and annotate the song lyrics while identifying figurative language terms. The figurative language terms are identified using SHAMPOO+II's. The annotations are made using a chart included in the answer key. Watch the music video either before or after annotations, teacher choice! Theme CD Project
This project is a quick and fun way to make sure students understand the basic concept of theme. The students will be asked to create a CD and CD Case out of paper. They will come up with tens songs that have the same theme and write them on the case. The students will then fill in a disc template on which they will define the word "theme". While this assignment seems very simple, students will still have fun linking about their favorite music and tying the music to the concept at hand. The
