Description

Using the song lyrics from "Just Like Fire", this lesson is a great attention getter. Students will get to read and annotate the song lyrics while identifying figurative language terms. The figurative language terms are identified using SHAMPOO+II's. The annotations are made using a chart included in the answer key. Watch the music video either before or after annotations, teacher choice! I prefer to read over the lyrics with the students, give them about 15 minute to annotate and identify terms, then watch the video as a class. I then give them about 15 minutes after the video to work on questions, then we discuss as a class.

This particular song comes with questions on theme, figurative language, and a RACED question. There is also a question related to the music video.

This song was used in connection with an Alice in Wonderland Unit that I used for 7th ELA.
