Absorb and Repel Inquiry Experiment for Early Primary Students

This resource was created in response to a student inquiry. This connects to the Ontario Grade 1 Science curriculum and several areas of the Kindergarten curriculum. Includes: - curriculum links - materials and tips - suggested read-aloud - 4 documentation pages for experiment using weighing objects (incl.

Ratios and Proportions Measuring Activity

This is a group activity for students to practice ratios and proportions as well as measurement skills. They will take turns measuring each group member's height, shoe length, and shadow length. They will graph height vs. shoe length and height vs. shadow length to determine which relationship is proportional. You will need to have measuring tapes or other measuring devices available to each student group, as well as access to a sunny outdoor location. Although data will vary greatly, an e

Jean's MATH
Most people can identify numbers in the millions, billions and trillions, but few people actually know the names for some really big numbers after that! This is a tried and true math lesson and lab that I have created and used for many years with my 7th and 8th grade classes. Students get a "kick" out of learning about really big numbers that they were never able to identify before now. They walk away feeling empowered and ready to share their knowledge with others! In the MATH LESSON, students

Math Lab: Investigating Second-hand Smoke Using Inequality Symbols

This lab is great to use as reinforcement to newly learned lessons, or it can be used as a semester review! Honestly, this is one of my favorites!* Working with a partner, students use balloons to measure the volume of a single breath of air and apply their calculations to determine (mathematically) how much second-hand smoke they breathe when exposed!* In the process of making their discovery, students use the circumference formula in a variety of forms in order to find a radius, and ultimatel

The next day, we finished the calculations and the visuals. Some worked faster than others, so some of the kids got to the reflection quest
