Banneker's Ticktock Clock - Math in Black History Month
Students watch a short video about Benjamin Banneker's life and accomplishments, then collaborate to produce a PowerPoint slideshow. They'll solve equations using substitution to decode their own Tick-tock Clock, after watching a read-aloud of the book. Their creative side will run wild with an open slide for their own showcase of Mr. Banneker's life. Linear System Global Word Problems
Students set-up and solve systems of linear equations to answer these global-themed, real-world, word problems. Shawarma, mangoes, mangosteens, rambutans, falafel --a few of the items in these six global-themed linear system word problems using authentic names, items, and prices from five different countries. Cross Curricular Linear Relationships + Science PBL Lesson
Kids use science tools, math equations, and prior knowledge to see how math can help real people come to conclusions. This video is very hands on. It requires a water measuring device, a dropper, access to computers and headphones, and an open mind. This took one 90 minute period for my algebra 1 students to complete. Students watch a video of water dropping and use that to ultimately determine how much water is wasted over time.

Flags and Functions: Graphing Linear Equations
Incorporate some social studies into your math lesson with this Flags and Functions activity! There are three versions that create different maps of Tanzania, Seychelles, and Trinidad and Tobago. To create these flags, students will graph linear equations and then follow directions to color regions of the graph. On the back are questions to help them learn more about each country.
