This speech analysis discussion guide highlights the rhetorical devices used by King with margin annotations and correlating color coded lines underlined in the text. This movie is a must in my public speaking class. I use this movie to preface our debate unit as well as to demonstrate how public speaking is not just a required course, but a useful tool that can motivate and inspire people.
Viewing guide includes comprehension questions surrounding the movie's action as well as objective-based questions (summary, text structure, etc.).
Such a great resource for any public speaking class or unit. This movie relates to the civil rights movement as well.

I use this activity as a fun way to improve nonverbal delivery skills. It could be used at virtually any time during the year, and might be a fun activity after testing or for the end of school. This great activity focuses on demonstrating to students all the reasons they have to be confident before during, and after public speaking.

Socratic Seminar - Perfect Peer Evaluation Rubric/Handout
This brief but engaging Checklist allows students from Elementary through High School to evaluate and "Coach" one another on key elements of Common Core Speaking and Listening standards while engaging in a Socratic Seminar.
Students should be paired with one other student. One student will observe his/her partner participate in the seminar, and then during a break with "coach" his/her partner based on the rubric. The students then switch roles and the other partner becomes the observing coach.
