Students receive a card with a either a coordinate point or linear equation on it. Then, music is played and students walk around the room as they would in musical chairs, but when the music stops, they have to pair up with another person (a coordinate point person pairs with a linear equation person and vice versa). Once paired, the teacher calls out "PARALLEL" or "PERPENDICULAR." The students then use the given point and line to write an equation that is either parallel or perpendicular to the

This task allows students to combine creativity with Math. They must design a 3D building and build it with found materials (i.e. paper, tape, glue etc.). They must then calculate the surface area and volume of the building. This can be used as a STEM activity or as an assessment for Surface Area and Volume in Grades 6-8. You can modify it as you need to

Students each brought in a box of their choice, rectangular prism or cube. Then I placed a sticker on one side. The students then had to draw the face of the box where I placed the sticker and label it with both length and width. The students then calculated the face's perimeter and area and then the volume of the full box. Students really enjoyed this assignment.
