Students will use the scientific method to research and explain a chosen enigma. They will complete research from a variety of sources and compare various theories in order to come to their own conclusion regarding the enigmas explanation. This unit of study was originally developed and implemented in a gifted and talented pull out program, however it can easily be used in a traditional classroom or as an independent research study. I created this as a supplement to accompany the 6th Grade Core Knowledge curriculum for World Deserts. All questions and activities are original, but are based on the History and Geography text published by Pearson Learning Group. Additionally, everything is aligned to the 6th Grade Common Core ELA standards. There is a group activity, vocabulary practice, and comprehension questions for each unit. There is also a culminating project. Answers keys are included.

About the Unit:
As teachers we have many jobs! One is to teach and prepare our students, and the other is to inspire! Too often the second is put aside, as we get our students ready for standardized testing. I designed this unit to do both!
In this unit students will be prepared to answer open response questions, as required to do on standardized testing.
