I have found myself doing mostly two to three week unit lessons, which are rather difficult to write out on a normal weekly lesson plan template. I don't necessarily have direct instruction or closure every day because it is just a continuation of the the previous or later lesson. I finally created a lesson plan template that works well with a unit lesson plan. And on the days I do not have direct instruction I simply put an x.

After reading through the posters in this lesson, the students read and look for those text features in non-fiction picture books. They will compare books on the same subject fro reading levels as well. Then using the note taking sheet and rubric/grading sheet, they create their own non-fiction picture book that have the text features.
