Inside the Pyramid- Creative Writing
This rubric includes directions, a scoring system, and a story starter for students to create a story of historical fiction. The story starter can be used to generate ideas. I have also had students create a story board on the back of the paper. I have also differentiated this assignment by allowing students to create a graphic novel instead of a traditional story. This can be done in class, or outside of class.

Use history to turn your students into more effective writers. Get away from the standard "five-paragraph essay" and use the writing of interviews, news broadcasts, letters, and poetry to hone your students writing of paragraphs and sentences. Teach your students to say the most with the least amount of words and improve their style in doing so.
