I love this Industrialization activity. It is a short writing prompt after students read fast facts and a scenario that puts them int he shoes of a factory worker, supervisor, or owner. Students will consider the three different perspectives and write an appeal to their needs and situation. The workers want better conditions and pay, the supervisors want more output from the workers, and the factory owners must justify their conditions to the public after complaints were filed. Get away from the standard "five-paragraph essay" and use the writing of interviews, news broadcasts, letters, and poetry to hone your students writing of paragraphs and sentences.
