I began by reading Martha Brenner's 'Abe Lincoln's Hat' and then asked the students what important things they would want to keep in a tall hat like Lincoln's. We also worked on our shape recognition for the week by reading/coloring a shape book I found online and then creating a shape monster book from die cut shapes. The students loved making a shape monster and coloring bunnies and putting band aid's on them!
