I began by reading Martha Brenner's 'Abe Lincoln's Hat' and then asked the students what important things they would want to keep in a tall hat like Lincoln's. This is a unit that I have created that can easily be used with students in 2-5 grades.
Students will use construction paper to create a portrait of a Frankenstein-like monster. Without showing this portrait to the other students, they will write a descriptive paragraph about their portrait.
