We are a mother and son team that are passionate about the culture of youth in our country and dedicated to expanding the minds of children! We have teamed up to post some of our ideas for others to share in. Thank you for stopping by! Please check out www.momnmetpt.blogspot.com for some thoughts about current education issues and ideas going around :) Josh (the son): Thanks for visiting our page! I have taught for 5 years(6th grade) with 4 years of junior high youth work before I went into teaching, so this is my 9th year being involved in the lives of kids. I love helping anyway I can in the lives of kids in hopes of showing them how important education is and all that is possible if they can come to see the value of being a life-long learner! Lana (the mom): Thank you so much for checking out our page. I have taught for nearly 20 years in multiple grade levels including 2nd grade, 5th grade and as an aide to a special needs child. Teaching has been my life's biggest accomplishment and I am proud of the work I have done over the many years I have been involved with the youth in our community.
Trust builds success - We believe 100% that perhaps the most important tool for a teacher to have to be effective is to gain a child's trust that you are there for their best interest. If they feel safe to question, safe to learn and safe to grow academically, socially and emotionally in your classroom, then that child will WANT to learn from you, rather than feeling they HAVE to learn from you. We try to foster an environment that encourages self-learning, self-challenge and intrinsic motivation - that is, we want our students to see the importance in taking control of their own education. Responsibility, organization, focus, discipline and determination are qualities that a teacher can help foster even more effectively if your students trust you.
Both of us have been chosen by administration within our schools and districts to be on leadership committees, curriculum writing committees and focus groups surrounding a variety of educational topics.
