In this inquiry activity you build a balloon rocket (elf) and time it as it 'flies' across a room. you then challenge students to create an elf using simple materials that will fly in a faster time than yours.
This is a fun way to teach Newton's Third Law of Motion, but there are 3 versions of the challenge included...2 for upper level students who have learned the law, and one for lower levels who are just learning about forces.
