I am always trying to figure out what to do with my little primary groups, and this unit was a definite hit with my kindergartners. It would work well with 1st grade too or the regular 2nd grade classroom. The full unit contains more than 2 hours of contact time.
It’s active, fun, and challenging for these little ones and seemed to have the right combination of “get up and move,” imagination, creativity, and “making” along with academic tasks.

CCSS Volcano Project with Report, Model and Presentation
This performance task (PT) can serve as a unit and will assess students ability to write an informational report. It engages students by including a model and presentation component. The PT is Common Core aligned and includes rubrics for W.4.2 and SL.4.4. A rubric is also included for the model.

This is a basic outline of a PBL project for students to discover more about the different body systems and common preventable diseases. In this project the students are put into groups and then given a list of symptoms that a patient is experiencing. This is a two-page item that students can keep or glue into their reading response journal. This is a research activity I created for my Gifted students. The activity is designed to be independent research. They must research WOLVES, find 10 vocabulary words related to WOLVES and create three products about WOLVES. I have a FREE sample of the research activity on WORMS in my TpT store. This project is an informational topic, research writing assignment I used in a gifted fourth grade classroom. Students choose their own topic and write a four paragraph essay followed by a speech to the class about their topic. It is in a Word document so that you can change the due dates to tailor this to your classroom.
