What's the Rule? A lesson in Pre-Algebra

This is a two page document that reinforces the use of finding patterns in numbers. It is an extension of the function machine commonly used in primary math lessons. It takes the rule a bit further and uses the rule in algebraic form for the student to use in figuring out an algebraic expression. I use this with my high ability 2nd grades, although it can be used with any grade if the student needs enrichment or reteaching.

Extension activities for early finishers or students who have mastered content. My students loved making their own schedules and the "real life" aspect of some of the choices. It is up to the the teacher to determine how many boxes students need to complete or if they must complete a row vertically, diagonally, horizontally, etc.

This is a project created to accompany a unit on metric and standard measurement. Students were able to test out of lessons after taking a pretest. If they tested out, they would work on the corresponding project part for that day. I have used this project for 5 years- EVERY year, the students who do not "test out" complete the project anyway!
