Point of View and the Unreliable Narrator
This is notes teaching point of view/perspective in narrative writing with a focus on unreliable narrators. Students are given the signs to look for in a text that the person may not be telling an accurate version of events. At the end of the notes, students are given a journal opportunity to process their notes and apply them in their writing. In my classroom, I use this with the story "Charles" by Shirley Jackson where students annotate and look for the signs listed in the notes.

Elements of Fiction PPT and Fill In Notes
I use this PPT at the beginning of the year to introduce basic elements of fiction. Often times, it is a review for my ninth graders. The PPT includes two short video links to show irony in media. My students love the example from "The Emperor's New Groove."
