This is notes teaching point of view/perspective in narrative writing with a focus on unreliable narrators. Students are given the signs to look for in a text that the person may not be telling an accurate version of events. At the end of the notes, students are given a journal opportunity to process their notes and apply them in their writing. In my classroom, I use this with the story "Charles" by Shirley Jackson where students annotate and look for the signs listed in the notes.

I have to say that in my experience truly showing a kid how to process information - pull out what is relevant, what is not; think about new knowledge in terms of what they already know, and what they don't; begin to understand language, and why writers craft their words the way they do; reflect on what is effective, and what is not - all of these are life skills, not just classro
