Theme of the Text
This is a graphic organizer that I use with my students to track their understanding of Theme within literature circles.
I copy this on color papered and ask them to glue it into their Reading Journals.
This allows me to quickly assess if they have gained the overall theme from the text. As well as, provide evidence as provide evidence for their theme choice.

The Giver - Graphic Organizer
This two-sided graphic organizer is a fantastic way for students to track their thinking as they read The Giver, by Lois Lowry.
I modeled to my students some examples of how I filled in the boxes (ie. unknown vocabulary, lists of rules, lists of Assignments) and also prompted students to add to their knowledge of the book's central themes on 'Sameness' and 'Release.'
The front page is a variety of box shapes and on the back page there are two mind maps around those key words.
