Practicing Essay Hooks
Sometimes the hardest part of an essay is getting students to write an exciting and intriguing hook (or eye-catcher).
This worksheet does several things and is editable to fit your students' levels and needs!
First, I assign an essay and tell the students that after developing their thesis, they will write 4 different hooks to choose from.
This assignment also encourages the use of other literary techniques such as imagery, parallelism, allusion, etc.

Argument Terms and Theory
This helps to walk students through the terminology that is used in argument writing, as well as makes them aware of logical fallacy. Each section of the packet can be broken into mini lessons, or it will take about 3 days to teach it straight through. Each section provides examples and sections for them to practice what they learned. They also get to analyze political cartoons and common jingles for fallacy.
