This reference guide was designed for students who receive special education services or for students who need a little extra support. The first part provides examples of what standard, word and expanded form look like, so they have an example to work off from and trigger their memory. The assigned activity is a note catcher and chart for an 8th grade US History class that educates students on the reform movements of the 1850s. The note catcher prompts students to take notes on the goals, key leaders, tactics, and influence of four major reform movements: abolitionist, temperance, women's rights, and education reform. Order of Operations Pyramid
Helpful tool when learning the order of operations using PEMDAS.
Instead of just using the acronym, the pyramid is color coded for visual learners. It also shows that multiplication/division are at the same level of the pyramid, same as addition/subtraction. This may help avoid the misunderstanding of preforming these operations from left to right.

Investigating Order in Solving Equations
Students will be introduced to the idea that order matters by applying a percentage discount and a dollar discount in different orders. They will then solve two and three step equations in different orders and determine through substitution which is the correct order. They should conclude that the order to cancel operations is PEMDAS backwards.
