Herman Melville - "Shiloh" analysis notes
I used these notes with my AP Literature class after they had written the analysis essay on this poem (prompt is included). Some of the students misinterpreted the poem, so before they revised their essays, I gave them these notes to help their understanding. The notes cover a brief background of Melville and the Battle of Shiloh, and analysis of the title, meter and rhyme, alliteration, tone, irony, and symbolism.
