Description

In this activity, students are guided through SIX revision steps in which they add voice to their personal narrative or college essay drafts.

Voice is one of the most important skills of the personal narrative/ college essay, and this activity challenges students to inject imagery into their writing through making associations and brainstorming similes, metaphors, and personification-- all based on those over-used abstract words. It also guides students through revising their diction to be more personal and distinct.

There are SIX revision steps in this activity. These include:

  • Adding imagery
  • Making associations
  • Adding literary devices
  • Adding adjectives
  • Adding exact language
  • Adding dialogue

This is an excellent activity to help your students get their voices and personalities to pop through their writing.
