Ratification Debates - Class Simulation / Primary Source Quotes
This resource provides primary source quotes from leading figures in the ratification debates for three important states: Virginia, New York, and Massachusetts. Student groups receive a different state, interpret and evaluate the quotes, discuss reasons for and against ratification and then vote on ratification themselves. Votes are tallied up and if 2 of the three states ratify, the constitution becomes the law!

City Coucil Meeting
This is an activity for a city council meeting. Students are broken up into groups and debate with the city council about whether or not to use tax money to pay for Disaster Kits. This is a good follow-up activity to talk about how to spend tax money or during a disaster preparedness unit. Interest Group Simulation- Basketball
This simulation teaches interest groups by having students form into interest groups, raise money by going out to the basketball court and shooting shots for donations, and then lobbying kids in a different classroom (Congress) to pass a law they want. The money students raise on the court is used to "fly" to Washington D.C (the other class) and make "campaign donations" to members of Congress, which I let them redeem for candy.
