Almost all Americans in spite of a diversity of races, classes, religions, ethnicities, or occupations hold to a common set of core values and beliefs. This course/unit explores six core beliefs of American political culture. Most of these core beliefs and values are unique to the American culture. In spite of these common beliefs, many Americans act in ways that are opposite to these values and assumptions.

This assignment is designed to challenge students to consider how they would respond as an elected representative, to various types of constituents. Students will be asked to provide written responses to six different letters from constituents from their “district.” For the purpose of this assignment, it is best if the students consider themselves to be members of the national government.
