Escape room style activity for STAAR review
This activity is a puzzle based, escape room style challenge activity where students receive clues, answer questions from released STAAR tests, get hints, and try to beat the clock to escape an alien ship.
I used a paired text from the 2017 5th grade released reading STAAR, it would be easy to simply delete the questions and have them complete questions from another grade level or even another subject.
They basically get a puzzle, then must answer 3 STAAR questions before you give them a hint

It is a very bright idea a coworker shared with me about four years ago to start implementing STAAR simulations in the classroom. I modified it a bit and gave it a name as well designed the thinking tracks that go along with it. It is a extremely engaging way to apply all knowledge previously taught in the classroom.
