Personal Narrative: Blueprinting Places and Memories

This assignment allows students to draw, label, and reflect on a special place. I used this with HOUSE ON MANGO STREET, but it could be used for many literary works. This assignment can result in a personal narrative, an expository piece, or a persuasive piece (especially helpful for the STAAR EOC). My students wrote some amazing essays based on their blueprinting. I have seen this used in adult writing workshops; it is a powerful tool. Enjoy!

You call the office, the head, the teacher next door – no one knows where it is. Most would panic, cut and run. Their heads would spin, their hearts rac

FREE -- HELP for AWAY DAYS -- SCENARIO SAMPLE

Teachers show up! And when they are away, there’s a good reason. Snow Days do not stop them. Freezing rain does not make them flinch. Weather is no match for a teacher. But, sometimes, teachers are under the weather, or a family member is and needs tender, loving care. Sometimes, duty demands they be in some place other than their classroom. It could be for a professional training workshop, or serving the greater good. Whatever the good cause -- this is the “HELP!!” resource for those times. It
