Description

Included is a full, five paragraph analytical essay, in MLA format, comparing how three different poems and poets tackle the concept of spring. The thesis is the last line of the introduction. This essay features in-text citations and a Works Cited page. Also included in this bundle (after the initial essay) is a more complex example of literary analysis -- but just one body paragraph. The paragraph is presented in two forms -- one is a straight forward analysis/comparison of a theme that appears in three Louise Erdrich short stories (with the idea that other themes will be addressed in further body paragraphs). The other presentation is the same paragraph, but words are bolded and underlined to draw attention to areas of analysis and the use of frequent transitional words and phrases. Teachers can provide these writing models to their students to help them understand how to create an introduction, thesis, topic sentences, use transitions, mix analysis with summary/explanation, integrate quotes, do in-text citations, create a Works Cited page.
