Crop Circles -- Unit Circle, Radian and Degree - 21st Century Math Project

At dusk, it … happens. Crop Circles have become a pastime of sorts around the world. Originally considered to be the work of aliens, they’ve baffled millions with their elaborate designs and timeliness of their work. With knowledge of the unit circle, radians and degrees students will be able to construct these masterpieces in short order. In this 21st Century Math Project, you will be given a mapping to the Content Standards, an outline for how to implement the project, 3 assignments and one pro

This project is a way for students to show their knowledge of the unit circle. Students are encouraged to use their creative sides to display the unit circle in a unique, inventive way. The resource includes: Project student directionsGoogle slides presentation for sharing and voting on student projects (winner gets bonus points!) Directions for setting up the google slides presentation and linking the google formGoogle form to collect votesVideo of how the voting will workSample projects from

This is a ready-made mathematician report assignment (with grading rubric included) good for a break in the action of any high school math class. This is a wonderful way to incorporate writing into your math classes. Students will enjoy this assignment because they learn about various mathematicians, their lives and contributions to the world of math. Included is everything you need to give the assignment to the students. I even picked the mathematicians for you. Students are assigned a mathe

Right Triangle Trigonometry Project

If you are looking for a project to assign for either in class work or at home work this is it. This project should be done after students are able to set up and solve right triangle trigonometry problems, and they are familiar with angles of elevation. I worked on this assignment over the course of two days. On day 1, I had students create their own clinometers and practice using them (materials listed in resources). On day 2, we walked around the school campus together and they calculated the

Trigonometry Project - How Tall is That? (Making a Theodolite)

This is one of my favorite projects of all time. Students make a tool to measure the angle of elevation from their eyeline and use it to measure the distance or height of things using trigonometry. I would bring students to the banks of the East River on the Brooklyn side and determine the height of the Chrystler building, or the distance to the Empire State. But you can also determine the height of the basketball hoop, the flagpole or the tallest tree on the school grounds. There are a lot

Math Project: Trigonometry and Ferris Wheels

A project to assess understanding of trigonometry from a unit circle perspective. Students research a famous Ferris wheel and use trigonometry to describe its motion.Document includes project description, checklist of steps, space for student work, and scoring rubric.

Students will work individually or in groups to write their own angle of elevation/depression work problems. This can be used as an in class activity or assessment after right triangle trig word problems. I usually create a Google Slide deck for each class and then have them solve each other's problems as review!

Unlock the mysteries of trigonometry with our engaging, hands-on activity designed to bring math to life for your students! This innovative lesson plan offers students the unique opportunity to apply their trigonometry skills in real-world scenarios by finding the height of various objects located around the school, inside the classroom, or even outdoors. Through this activity, students will embark on an adventurous journey into the world of angles and measurements. They will construct a clinome

The Two Day Soccer Math Project, GOOGLE DOC

The Two Day Soccer Math Project is exactly like it sounds. It was designed for an advanced middle school or early high school student (preferably a soccer fan) to complete in about two days and it contains quite a bit of rigor for something that the student will think is a fun change of pace. It's not a project that requires any pre-planning or supplies. It's just a great project that is a bit all-encompassing as far as math skills are concerned. They will use estimation skills, percents, measur

Students will be stranded on an island and use a map and trig to determine how to get to safety. Bearings are listed as standard form for angles but can easily be edited to use cardinal directional form. Can be done as a class to quickly review topics or assigned. Two versions with different graphs and measurements are included.Topics covered include:graphing sine or cosinedetermining the equation from a descriptionright triangle trig (including inverses)Pythagorean Theoremd=rt

Trigonometry Project

This open-ended project is intended for use at the end of a unit on graphing and transforming trig functions.Students are instructed to find real-life data sets that can be modeled using trig functions. They plot the data, fit an equation to it, and interpolate or extrapolate a point in context. Then they do the same for two other related sets of data so they can compare and contrast their graphs. The project comes with a grading rubric out of 100 points.

This project has students choose and fold a piece of origami. They will use the outline of the figure to create a polygon, triangulate the polygon, and use the Law of Sines and Cosines to find missing parts of triangles. Once triangles have been solved, students will find the area of each triangle (I teach Heron's area formula and Area=0.5(a)(b)sin(C) to streamline the process) to calculate the total area of their figure. Great for remote learning and asynchronous project assignment. Hyperli
