Geometry - Graphing Special Lines-Parallel and Perpendicular-Two Investigations

This activity contains two investigations. First Investigation:• On the graph provided, students graph each of the pairs of points and draw a line through the pair of points.• The students study the two lines and conjecture that the two lines are parallel.• Then the students find the slope of the two given lines to notice that when the lines were parallel the slope of the two lines are equal.• Students repeat these three steps with four more points. • After students know that two parallel lines

Geometry - Area and Perimeter - An Exploration on the Geoboard

This activity is designed to be used with a geoboard (11 x 11 pegs). An alternative for geoboards is included in this package (index size cards with 11 x 11 geoboards). Students explore the meaning of perimeter and area by constructing polygons on the geoboard with rubber bands or drawing line segments that represent the rubber bands on the index size cards. The activity can also be used with Communicator Clearboards, available from Educator's Outlet and a copy of a student grid. After the st

AREA OF TRIANGLES USING GEOBOARDS

This activity will lead middle school students through constructing triangles and rectangles that are related to each other to determine a method for finding the area of a triangle. There are three parts of the investigation:• Finding the area of triangles where there is one horizontal and one vertical side• Finding the area of triangles where there is one horizontal or one vertical side• Finding the area of triangles of general triangles. The investigation ends with the students summarizing what

Trig - Law of Sines - PARTNER PAIRS

Partners will work on separate columns of problems that will result in the same answer to check each others' work. There is a set of 10 problems for each partner to complete. 6 problems are on finding missing sides and 4 problems are on finding missing angles. The RELAY RACE has some of these same problems. The RELAY has 32 different problems. This product has 20 problems.Posted: 11/5/14 so 50% off through 11/8/14

Apple Taste Test - Fall / Autumn Science Experiment with Opinion Writing

This is a great science experiment / activity for students to do in the fall. Students taste-test apple slices, apple cider, apple juice, and applesauce to look for different flavor qualities. Use as part of a unit on the 5 senses, or just for fun! Goes great with Halloween or Thanksgiving activities too! This fun, engaging resource contains a space for students to review their opinion on different apple products, with options for differentiation.Options include simple like/dislike, writing with

Observing Apples Using Your Five Senses

Those Who Can
I created this little journal in the autumn when we were learning scientists use their 5 senses to make observations. In order for the lesson to be successful, different types of apples will need to be purchased and cut up. I have my students write down their observations for sight, smell, and touch. Then, they eat a piece of the apple and write down their observations for taste and hear. Then they write down their observations into sentences.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Generating Pythagorean Triplets

This activity will guide students in creating three charts of more than 60 Pythagorean Triplets, which are sets of three integers that satisfy the Pythagorean Theorem. Once you see the pattern you will be able to generate even more Pythagorean Triplets.Students look for a pattern in the first chart to notice that the first integer is an odd number and the other two sum up to the square of the odd number. The triplets in this first chart also follow an algebraic pattern. The next chart has tripl

2020 The Autumnal Equinox

This is one of Four lab/worksheets on understanding why some dates are equinoxessolstices.Students will copy apparent paths of the Sun from a diagram and draw and label the paths onto an 'Hours Of Daylight' graph. The apparent paths are specifically drawn for New York State. The worksheet is in Microsoft Word and maybe edited for calendar dates. A Student Instruction Sheet is included. Teachers should practice on their own copy first.
