Medieval or Renaissance Student Handout
This 21st century style investigation is a great way to introduce the Renaissance and the concept of humanism. Students will be challenged to use their logic as they view slides of art, architecture, and music in order to make the determination "Is it Medieval or Renaissance?"

Black death intro lesson (distance learning)
This lesson is to be done as an introduction to the black death and life in medieval towns. Students should not have prior knowledge on any of the topics in the lesson. They will take an educated guess on what they think the exhibits are and what it tells them about life in medieval towns. Throughout the lesson there is a plague doctor roaming the streets, which helps build suspense, until he finally appears. The students love the build up and suspense of the lesson. This is an excerpt from the Roman historian Herodian on how an emperor rose to power. It exemplifies the political instability and government corruption of the Roman Empire which goes hand in hand with the fall of Rome. 5 questions accompany it, and build up on the DOK levels to accurately gage the students' understanding of both the document and the content.
