This is a project I use with my EL students to learn about their countries and cultures. The discussion questions help us to talk about what is important to us and then students have the opportunity to research the questions they have come up with. Then students write an essay and do a slideshow to present the information they have learned. My students love sharing their home country and culture with their classmates!

Synthesis Essay Prompt, Sources, and Activities
This unit outline focuses around writing a synthesis essay. The guiding question in the unit looks at how food is ingrained in American culture. Students research traditions, health, entertainment, and even how we show love through food in our culture. The sources included incorporate Ted Talks, articles, CommonLit short stories, TikToks, and YouTube videos. I also include information about Narrative 4 Story Exchanges because I enjoy using them to start a new unit.
