You can find lots of commercials on YouTube that use a variety of techniques and are appropriate for school. You would need to teach what each technique would look like, then model this lesson as a whole group with an example commercial.

Labor Markets and Minimum Wage: Crash Course Economics #28

How much should you get paid for your job? Well, that depends on a lot of factors. Your skill set, the demand for the skills you have, and what other people are getting paid around you all factor in. In a lot of ways, labor markets work on supply and demand, just like many of the markets we talk about in Crash Course Econ. But, again, there aren't a lot of pure, true markets in the world. There are all kinds of oddities and regulations that change the way labor markets work. One common (and kind

Market Failures, Taxes, and Subsidies: Crash Course Economics #21

This week on Crash Course Econ, Jacob and Adriene are talking about failure. Specifically, we're talking about market failures. When markets don't provide a good or service efficiently, that's a market failure. When markets fail, often governments step in to provide those services. Stuff like public education or military protection are good examples of market failures. So, what are some of the ways governments address, market failures? Well, it's funny you should ask, as we also talk about that

What is foreign aid? How much foreign aid does the United States distribute each year. Comparatively, not much. In fact, foreign aid only accounts for a small fraction of most nations' overall spending. But it's hugely important. Foreign aid improves healthcare, can promote economic growth, and assists people who've been through disasters. Remittances are moneys that are sent internationally by immigrants. Why do people buy the stuff they buy? In classical economics, most models assume that consumers behave rationally. As you've probably noticed in your real life, in case after case, people don't actually make rational decisions. There can be emotional or social reasons for all this irrationality, and behavioral economics tries to address this. We'll talk about risk, nudge theory, prices and perception, and the ultimatum game. So, let's get irrational, in a logical way, of course. Here is what is

Find Economics resources | TPT

If you’re an educator or parent looking for printable or digital resources to help your student learn about economics, TPT has got you covered. We’ve got a comprehensive collection of economics and financial literacy resources available, including activities and lessons on trade, goods and services, and the stock market to name just a few. With plenty of TPT high-quality resources at your fingertips, you’ll be able to teach economics to your students in no time at all.

Economics activities to try

Here are a few examples of the different types of activities and lessons you can find on TPT to help teach students about economics:

Simulation Activities

You can introduce students to the world of investing, budgeting, and other economics-related activities through simulations. For example, have students research companies they want to "invest" in to show them how the stock market works. If you want to extend the lesson, you can have them periodically check in on their portfolios throughout the year to see how their investments are performing. Or, you could use a simulation to teach them about causes that led up to certain major historical events, like the stock market crash of 1929.

Budgeting Exercises

Help students understand the importance of managing their own financial resources by challenging them to create a budget. Give them a few hypothetical scenarios involving income, expenses, and financial goals. For example, you could ask them to plan a fictional character's monthly expenses, or have them create a budget to save for buying a house.

Trade Games

Through trading games, students can learn about importing and exporting, along with the impact of external forces and trade agreements. Ask students to work in teams and have them trade goods, record their imports and exports, and respond to charges (like tariffs and embargoes).

Cost-Benefit Analysis

Give students a real-world decision to make (e.g., building a new road, investing in a new technology, or buying property) and have them perform a cost-benefit analysis. To deepen the learning, you can ask them to justify their decisions with evidence.
