TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught seventh grade science for 27 years and was an instructional coach for 8 years for a total of 35 years as an educator. I was part of a team of teachers who received a full year of training in differentiation by Carol Ann Tomlinson and then continued to work with ASCD trainers to provide differentiation training within my own district and in Professional Development workshops in other school districts and for the State of Utah. I have been an adjunct instructor for pre-service and in-service college methods courses in differentiation and language development. I worked with the New York Times best-selling author Amy Stewart to create teaching resources for her nonfiction books Wicked Plants, Wicked Bugs, The Earth Moved, and Flower Confidential. Those resources can be downloaded free at www.amystewart.com and can serve as a sample of the quality of my work. My professional experiences have engendered in me a passion for helping teachers to differentiate instruction and to support literacy in science. My teaching resources on TpT are created for the purpose of helping regular educators to differentiate science instruction without lowering the academic bar. I respect and obey copyright and trademark laws. Where I have used any copyrighted or trademarked material in my resources, I warrant that I have done so with the permission of the copyright or trademark owner.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In order to make science both engaging and rigorous I create resources that bring art, literacy and science together. I believe in creating serious content designed to be engaging and creative for students. I believe that it is important to support English language literacy in every academic content area. My resources are designed to make connections between content areas and to be engaging and accessible to students of all backgrounds and learning profiles.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Most Influential Teacher - Honor awarded by each year's top 5% of high school graduates in my school district. Doilney Award - Peer nominated teaching award. Regular Educator of the Year - by the Utah Association for Special Education. And the most important award ever: A former student of mine wrote a book and dedicated it to me.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.S. from the University of Utah.
