I have been a high school English teacher at Grafton High School in Central Massachusetts since 1994. Currently, I teach college preparatory sophomores and seniors. Previously, I have taught Freshman English, Freshman Study Skills, Sophomore Writing and Speech and Advanced Placement Literature and Composition (2002-2017). In addition to teaching, I have served as English Department Head (1998-2009), Class Advisor(Class of 1998 ), Founder and Advisor to the Cultural Enrichment Club(1998-2008), The Tolerance Project Advisor (2005-2010) and GHS No Stomach For Cancer Walk Advisor (2012-2017). I have also served on many committees including NEASC Accreditation Steering Committee.
No matter what class I teach, I always want to make sure students can find a real-world connection to what we do in class. Also, I tell students that my goal is for them to "know why you think what you think." As much as possible, I try to embed study skills/organization skills into the different tasks we complete so they become more independent learners. This also helps students become more confident, which help with Social Emotional Learning. Although I am structured and organized, I also like to use humor and make our classroom a place in which students feel comfortable.
English Department Head (1998-2009) Every Day Hero Award, 2012 This award is presented to individuals who have made a significant and positive contribution in enhancing the life of a student with special needs.
