Description

What's Included:

  • Overview of Product
  • 3-Page Handout: What is MLA Format? 3 Parts: Paper Set Up, Works Cited, In-text Citation

Overview:

When students hear the phrase, “MLA Format,” they often think it means just attaching a works cited page or making sure they have the correct heading or including in-text citations. Many students are not aware that MLA format is 3-parts: paper set up, in-text citations, and works cited. They think that including one or two parts is adequate. Sometimes one or more of those components are missing because students do not understand that they are all required. They don’t understand that the in-text citations point them to the works cited page.

This 3-page handout is intended to provide students with a basic understanding of what we mean when we say “proper MLA Format.” This does not include specific formatting information for different types of resources. It is intended to help them understand that there are 3 required parts.

On this handout, I include links to two excellent on-line resources about how to cite (in-text and for works cited page) sources.
